How It All Started

As a youth growing up in what is now known as the weirdest city in the NW, Portland, Oregon, Loris Hervey was everything but. Portland had many obstacles to overcome; racism, poverty, and gang violence. By the time Loris was 20 yrs of age, he had already lost many of his peers due to various reasons. Knowing there was a better road to travel, he took to the streets with a mission to stop senseless violence and wake up the youth by promoting peace and equality among all people, not just peers.

Loris created a pamphlet called Horizing Up. It was aimed at spreading knowledge and broadening the horizons of the community to help rise above the negativity; hence the name Horizing Up. On the inside back cover was an ordering form with a t-shirt that Loris designed during a youth art contest. The winner had their design printed on 50 t-shirts. Little did he know at the time, that was the beginning of a long entrepreneurial journey that sparked the birth of Horizing Up Printing.
